At 22, I decided to throw away a perfectly good job as a production assistant to be a teacher. Not because I had a calling to mold mines or because I love working with children. I quit my job abruptly (I basically didn’t show up and ignored my bosses calls, I am so sorry Hazel!!!) because I refused to get dirty or to work more than 40 hours a week. As a teacher, I would clock in 32 hours. I didn’t factor lesson planning, but, to be candid, I drafted lesson plans during my breaks.
Now, I work my ass off. Especially on LoveSujeiry.com. I don’t even make half the money I made with Hazel or as a teacher from this website. At least not yet. But I am here, typing and editing away, creating content, sharing on social media and churning my brain daily to make LoveSujeiry.com the best multimedia platform for Latinas on all things love.
I do this because I love what I do. Most of us work over 40 hours a week and some of us don’t even make ends meat – and hate our jobs! I found my calling. It doesn’t feel like work. It feels like passion and love. This career fills me, enriches me, teaches me…and I want the same for you.
How do you find your calling and love what you do? Can you pursue your passion and make money? I dish on this and more with author of Love Incorporated, Jennifer Noel Taylor, on Love Sujeiry: Talk Served Raw on reVolver Podcast.
