Tomorrow I am taking flight at the crack of dawn for a much needed vacation. Yes, I just returned from mountainous and beachy California, but that was a non-stop networking and mingling event. Puerto Rico will be quite the opposite. For the first time in a long time, I will actually disconnect from the outside world. If it isn’t in the present, then it’s not taking any of my time.
That’s right, Pepitas. It is time to unplug.
Here are some tactics I plan to use to get some much needed rest.
- Goodbye Birdie: I’ve never understood those who take a vacation from Twitter. As they type their last tweet for the week or the month, I panic, as if it were I who were bidding my new friends adieu! This time it will be me. As much as I love tweeting and networking through the bird, this obsession with social media is for the birds. I wake up and the first thing I do is grab my iPhone and read through my timeline. I don’t brush my teeth or wash my pepa™ bright and early in the morning; I tweet! This is why I am taking a much needed break. Expect an ‘RIP Sujeiry’s Twitter’ tweet on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 6:45am EST.
- Reading An Actual Book: Facebook was my drug of choose until I tired of it’s effects and joined Twitter. But recently, I have joined very active groups on Caralibro, including Blog Hermanas and Latina Lifestyle Bloggers. Even more recently (Monday to be exact), I was anointed co-moderator of LLBloggers, which means I an partially responsible for keeping the community active via questions, articles and comments. It is a great opportunity that I am ready to take on…after Puerto Rico. So, for the next 5 days, I am putting down my first drug, my joint, and picking up an actual book. Goodbye Facebook – my gateway drug to social media!
- No More Texting: And I say that with as much passion and fevor as Mary J. Blige sings “No More Drama.” Lately, I’ve been really annoyed with texts and those who texts me. I don’t want to have a business or personal conversation with you over text. I don’t want one conversation to last days. And I certainly don’t want to utilize my hands every minute of my day for texting. I have pieces to write, food to eat, and a pepa™ to fondle! So, if you so happen to text me from Thursday to Sunday, you just won’t get a response. As for after Sunday, please call if you need to speak, or email me if it’s a business proposition. From that day onward, texting is reserved for providing directions and confirming of plans!
And that’s about it.
I look forward to returning from Puerto Rico less isolated and scattered and much more energized and focused. A little break never hurt anyone. And with that said, I’m over and out!
If you happen to miss Sujeiry during her 4-day hiatus, please feel free to stare at her photos in the photo gallery. That may help your fix.
