I walked into the House of Dolls on a chilly November day, ready to film a scene with MUA’s Thalia and Kevin for VH1’s Beauty Bar – a new reality television series that depicts the lives of these beauty professionals working hard and playing harder in Inwood. Immediately, I felt at home. And not just because of the camera crew and my love for TV.
Thalia and Kevin were warm, engaging and open. They felt like a warm cup of Cafe Bustelo. And that’s damn good.
As I sat in each of their chairs, getting dolled up for a makeup trial (you have to see tonight’s show for the big reveal!) they shared their life with me. Claro, I was a busybody, asking a million and one questions. I was interested in their lives as Kevin is a gay Latino and Thalia is a transgender woman who is more woman than I could ever be.
Thalia is sexy, confident and feminine. Qualities I wished I bestowed naturally.
Kevin and Thalia of VH1’s Beauty Bar also taught me some tricks. I learned about rose water (for that fresh face, yo!) and how essential it is to pursue dreams wholeheartedly from Kevin. Thalia is the epitome of speaking up and standing for something. This continues on my podcast, where Kevin shares more about his conservative family and his homosexuality (his mother doesn’t accept him because he is gay) and Thalia inspires us with her fierceness as she dishes on her past life and refusing to be labeled. Plus, we dish on being catfished, fan reactions to them on the show, and the two episodes of VH1 Beauty Bar where I am featured as a dating expert!
This and more on this episode of Love Sujeiry: Talk Served Raw on reVolver Podcast. Be sure to tune into VH1’s Beauty Bar every Wednesday at 10pm ET for more Thalia, Kevin and the familia that is the House of Dolls.
