And not just Latinas. According to a recent survey, 89% of women would be willing to give up anything for two weeks in order to have healthy, shiny hair. Yet, more than half of the women don’t take care of their hair as much as they do. We use heat styling tools on a regular basis and do NOT protect our over-processed hair with deep conditioning treatments. That’s when we get dry hair and mucho split ends!
As a Dominicana, I was raised to take care of my hair. We are taught to condition it, nurture it and always keep it shiny and healthy. It’s no wonder that my hair routine is lengthy. I spend a total of three hours on my hair when I go from curly to straight. Three hours? Yes, ladies, three whole hours. That’s because my process honors my pelo. I make sure my long locks look great and that they are well nourished.
That’s what the NEUTROGENA® Triple Moisture hair line is for – moisture. It contains olive oil and sweet almond oil which are said to be great for dry hair. My hair is really curly and so it gets tangled easily. It also tends to dry up. It needs moisture or it gets frizzy when curly or breaks when straight. How did the NEUTROGENA® Triple Moisture hair line favor my Dominican curls? I’ll tell you how I worked it out (or did it work me out?) step-by-step.
First, I shampooed my hair with the NEUTROGENA® Triple Moisture Cream Lather Shampoo. I usually do three washes if my hair is really dirty, and two if I haven’t been lazy and washed my hair as often as I should. This time I did two washes. It’s creamy so it lathered really well and smells great.
Next step was the NEUTROGENA® Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask. It is specifically to repair hair that is extra dry or over-processed. That’s me! I use heat on my hair (get to that later) and this treatment really helped with detangling my curls. I left it on for 5 minutes and then rinsed it out while detangling.
The last step was the NEUTROGENA® Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner. My hair was already so soft due to the hair mask that I didn’t need the conditioner but better safe than sorry!
So, what was the final product? Here’s what it looks like curly with the NEUTROGENA® Triple Moisture Leave In Conditioner. I used this after the shower and with just a dab of holding gel.
How did I get it straight? The old fashion way. I set my hair in rolos, sat under a hair dryer like a vieja and then flat ironed my hair while dry to get it really straight (or as I call it, Asian straight). Once the process is complete I paint the town fuchsia with my hair down and parted in the middle. That’s one of my favorite ways to style my hair. I style in so many ways but there’s just something super sexy about long, shiny locks falling on bronze shoulders. Epecially if you are a Dominicana.
