When Mother’s Day creeps around like a cuco in the night, I often run scared…to the flower shop. You see, Mami isn’t the easiest woman. The best way to describe her is…particular. She says she will be happy with any gift that is gifted; yet she whines if it isn’t exactly what she wants.
Thing is only Mami knows what she wants. In fact, she only tells us what she loathes, like:
1. Flowers because they die and so they’re a “waste of money”
2. Chocolate because “no me gusta!”
3. Food. Well, she loves food, but only if she cooked it or supervised the person who cooked the meal. If we take her to a restaurant, she will eat the food and complain because “no me gusta!” but will continue to devour it anyway.
4. The train. She doesn’t take it. She just can’t stand the stairs. I get it; she’s old! So we are limited when taking her out to celebrate Mother’s Day. It’s either a spot in Washington Heights, or we take the bus for hours to travel to another neighborhood in Manhattan. But don’t mention Brooklyn because “me no likey!”
So, I know what it’s like to fret over a Mother’s Day gift, which is why I’ve created a Mother’s Day gift guide to help you if in this very predicament. It’s about buying yo’ momma a gift that lasts, like the following. P.S. They are all free!
What mother doesn't want her kids to call more, visit more, just more, more, more?! Often times all our momma's want is quality time with their baby's, even though we are grown. And by quality time I mean real time. Ask your mom about her interests, her past, her desires, hopes and dreams. Get to know her as a person. She is more than the uterus you took over. And stay off your mobile phone! (That's what my mom would shout because "no me gusta texting!") Photo Credit: Flickr.com/naomi_pincher.
