One of my biggest fears of motherhood is having a drool-y baby. “But, Sujeiry,” you say, “babies drool. That’s just what they do.” I know! And it’s freaking me out!
I don’t know where this phobia stems from but saliva and I have never mixed. Case in point: my cousin, Blady’s wet kisses – and how I wipe my cheek right after he pecks it. You’d think he had malaria and needed to be quarantined. But, it’s not Blady’s fault that he has super full lips.
Same goes for making out. I like to french, but I don’t love it. Because, spit, saliva and sometimes, yes, drool. Have you ever made out with a guy and had to wipe your mouth? I have and it was disgusting. But, it wasn’t his fault I have super thin lips that can be swallowed with a lip lock.
As you see my fear of drool may paralyze me once baby boy arrives, especially when he starts teething. Teething babies are balls of drool. He’ll look like this.
Only less white. And I’ll react like this:
Unless, of course, I get help. Boo will clean up that drool, dammit! He’ll just have to – or our baby boy will drown in a sea of his own saliva! What will I do when Boo is at work or salsa dancing or, worse, when he finally says, “No more. Suck it up, woman.”? I need a backup. Mami would be my go-to but she lives in a far away land called New York, NY. She isn’t taking the Long Island Railroad to wipe up drool. She just won’t do. Bazzle Baby and Funkins, however, might just be my saviors.
Bazzle Baby has a product called the Banda Bib, and it’s the first ever bib designed to catch dribble and drool. It’s designed by the mom of a drooler for the mom of a drooler – and that may be me! Plus, they are so stylish. I mean, look at these cute drool-catching bibs!
Starting from$7.99, they’re affordable and available online at Amazon and also at Target stores.
Then there are Funkins – colorful, reusable and eco-friendly cloth napkins that are perfect to pick up drool. You can also take Funkins to the park for a baby and Mami picnic.
Waste-free and starting at $3.00, they grow with your baby as they are perfect for lunch boxes. Made of 100% cotton, they are soft, which means they’ll perfect to wipe baby boy’s face! You can buy Funkins here.
Now, I feel more prepared to take on the drool. I will tackle this fear head on – and cover my baby in Banda Bibs and Funkins.
