I’m writing you this love letter to reflect on all we’ve been through. You weren’t what I expected but I appreciate you nonetheless. You began with hope and opportunity. In January, I received a call from OWN about being cast for a potential reality show. It didn’t work out. The show was going in a different direction, they said. And I plowed ahead.
You continued to bring much of the same – many maybe’s, almost’s, and not just quite’s. Through most of it all I remained positive, focused, and hopeful. You, 2012, wanted me to learn a lesson in Patience, like a lover who slowly takes my pepa to ecstasy (even though my pepa wants the big O now!). You led me on a pleasurable journey of passion, growth, experimentation, and dedication. For the first time, I invested in myself and my career. I hired a publicist because I needed to put my money where my mouth was. I decided to be a business woman in words and in action. Investing in myself was a huge step in my development as a woman and a human being.
Fortunately, you weren’t all business. With you by my side, I remet someone. Saw him for the first time as a potential partner and lover. Yes, I speak of Paco, with his patience, humor and layered persona. He has also taught me a few things. Waiting isn’t always terrible. Though he is a natural tortoise and I am always the hare, I’ve seen the benefits of what it means to get to know a man before jumping in. We are still a work in progress but I am optimistic about not only the end but also the journey.
You, 2012, were a journey. An amazing, eye opening journey. For that I thank you. Because of you, I welcome 2013 with more knowledge, clarity, patience, appreciation and love.
