When I was a little girl, I watched Mami cook and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner to my father. She’d run into the kitchen for his fork – which she’d often forget – and ate alone after all were fed like a sirvienta from a telenovela. Still, she didn’t complain. It’s what she was taught to do as a good, traditional Latina.
This traditional woman’s role still exists today and it is passed down by grandmothers to mothers to daughters. And isn’t the only one we Latinas are prone to adopting.
