Do Men Like Women with Ink?

Considering more ink, single Jeanine has an aha moment. What if she totally shrinks her dating pool because men don’t like women with ink?!

Once upon a time tattoos and piercing were considered “alternative,” and bad boys and rocker girls were the few who sported any form of ink. Now, what is “alternative” is considered “mainstream,” which means most of us have dated or are dating someone who rocks some sort of body art. But, is this by choice or by default? Most importantly (at least for the hetero ladies reading this piece), do men like women who have tattoos?

I have three tattoos and am considering getting a few more. Then I realized that I haven’t been in a relationship since getting my last tattoo. This aha moment brought on a bit of anxiety for me. Oh my God! What if I totally shrink my dating pool because the majority of men don’t like women with ink?!

It’s a possibility. Many men dislike tattooed women and believe tattoos diminish a woman’s beauty. “A woman with a tattoo can be horribly unattractive,” shared Jerimiah, 36. Jericho, 33, agrees, stating, “If you’re tatted like an NBA player or rapper then nah, I’m not going to find that attractive.”

Some men even feel tattoos are synonymous with strip clubs. “My first thought is that a woman with tattoos must dance for some booty trap strip club,” began 43-year-old Joseph, “I can understand maybe one or two or a memorable tat of someone they lost, but those leopard tats from neck to toe aren’t attractive. A jungle across the back, money, or guns…I will think you either dance for a strip club or you’re representing some the hood where you’re from. I am a firm believer that tats should be hidden and not showed off.”

However, there are a few men who believe tattoos can be beautiful. It just depends on their placement. Some men like the idea of a sleeve while others feel that sleeves or hand tattoos are too masculine. Colin, 35, for instance, doesn’t like neck or face tattoos, while Kari, 36, doesn’t mind tattoos at all. “The woman becomes more of a piece of art, and everyone loves art.”

So, ladies, what one man finds “too masculine” or too stripperish (whatever that means) another may find gorgeous. Go on and tat as you wish. And fuck what they think.
