Let’s Talk About Sex! What Does Your Number Say About You?

Does our number of sexual partners define us? What do men and women really think about our digit? Here is what your number may say about you.

Numbers1, 10, 22…your number of sexual partners shouldn’t define you.

This past weekend I had an intimate conversation with a new guy that I’m dating. Suddenly, he asked me “the question.”

“How many guys have you slept with?”

I was shocked. I didn’t know how he would react to my number. So I gave him a PC answer.

“Let’s leave the past in the past!” I said.

Then I began thinking: what does our number of sexual partners say about us? I did some digging and this is what some men and women had to say.

The Virgin (0)
I expected men to enjoy virgins. Think about it: you can be “the one” and teach her how to seduce you. Men must enjoy that claim to fame! Well, I was wrong. Brad, a 19 year old from Orange County, thinks that if he has sex with a virgin she may get attached.

“It’s such a big investment,” he continued. “I rather not be ‘the one.'”

This makes it hard for virgins. Yes, there are still some around. Jennifer, a 19 year old from Santa Cruz, is waiting because “she hasn’t met anyone that she wants to take her virginity.” She has had boyfriends in the past but they were never serious enough to take that step. “I am no necessarily waiting for marriage. Just that special person,” she admitted.

Goldilocks (1-4)
For the majority of men that I spoke to, this number was “just right.” Chris, 23, from Orange County said, “It means she has some experience but isn’t that easy.”

The Tester (5-9)
After the Goldilocks, we have The Tester – women who may be too close to the limit of (gasp!) promiscuity. At least that’s what men believe. The men that I spoke with felt that a woman with these numbers may be a little too much to handle. Jared, a 22 year old from Torrance, CA thinks so.

“A range like this would mean the girl doesn’t see sex as a big deal, so she would give up to any guy she was dating.” He added.

However, Margo, a 22 year old from South Pasadena, has a rebuttal. As a Tester herself, she wants to defend her number. “I’m at a lucky number seven right now,” she divulged. “I didn’t have a boyfriend in college and I wanted to experiment.”

Will she continue to test the sexual waters? “My number isn’t going to go much higher; it was only an experimental phase.”

Promiscuous Patty (10-14)
Promiscuous Patty isn’t afraid to explore her sexuality, hence her number of sex partners. And surprise! Some men, like Daniel, a 20 year old from Los Angeles, don’t care.

“I’m fine with a girl who has had this many past sex-partners,” he said. “Just as long as she is over the phase when we are dating.”

Many women agreed and fought against the double standard. “If a guy had this number, no one would have a problem with it,” argued Natali, a 20 year old from West Covina. “But heaven forbid a girl have this many partners! Many people would call her a slut.

Natali is exactly right. Though it’s the 21st century, women are judged much more harshly than men when it comes to their number of sexual partners. So you can only imagine how ‘The Slut’ feels.

‘The Slut’ (15+)
Let’s come clean – I don’t think you are a slut. To each their own, I say. After all, you’re simply taking advantage of your opportunities, right?

Not if you speak with some folks. Most men and women believe that a 20-something year old girl who has over 15 partners is “overly promiscuous.” And don’t think you should be proud of it.

“If a girl’s number is higher than 15, she should either lie about her number or try to avoid talking about it,” Gabriel, a 22 year old from Los Angeles, thinks.

He’s right. Sort of. No matter what it is you shouldn’t have to divulge your number. It’s your prerogative. Your number does not define you. What matters is that you are satisfied with your choices…and hopefully by your sexual partners.

What do you think about someone’s number?
