The act of masturbation is also a unique way of self-expression. It builds confidence, it’s healthy, it’s natural, and it’s free! In fact, many sex therapists or health professionals prescribe masturbation to women who want to increase their sexual awareness, breakthrough sexual barriers, or need help with some type of sexual dysfunction. Another benefit is great skin. The facial muscles we use to express ourselves during orgasm, or a sexual encounter, gives the face a natural elasticity. This will ultimately give off a post-sex glow and even wards off wrinkles.

So why do many women have an issue with masturbation? Many still think it’s taboo. Publicly they won’t admit it, but according to Kinsey Institute’s statistics, 94% of men and at least 70% of women indulge in this enjoyable beneficial activity. Another big issue we have with masturbation is that the pure self-interest and indulgence makes us uncomfortable.

If you are interested in trying masturbation, or retrying it without having negative feelings about it, you really should. Here’s how:

Get in the mood. Find a quiet place and lay back. I prefer to close my eyes and use my imagination. You could also grab your laptop and watch a steamy novella.

Explore and identify the different parts of your genital anatomy. My best advice is to sit legs open with a compact mirror for a better look. Now, in order to let the pleasure flow you need to take deep steady breaths. Timing breaths with a rhythmic pelvic rocking can help circulate the sexual energy throughout your body.

Countdown to orgasm. I recommend that you pace yourself and don’t rush to climax, trying too hard can kill your arousal. Another great tip is to make sure you follow through once you do hit that climactic sensation. When you feel that instant tingle and relief, drag it out. Continue to slowly pleasure yourself until your body can’t take it anymore and you’re so overwhelmed with pleasure that you start rejecting your own touch. This warm melting feeling is what our sexual being craves. Feed it.

Practice makes perfect. We are all unique and masturbation will teach you just what type of stimulation feels good to you.

Play with a toy or practice a new technique alone first. This may spare you from performance anxiety and even frustration or disappointment when you aren’t fulfilled when you are with a partner. Once you have discovered the secrets of success, you can engage in sexual escapades with a higher level of confidence.

If you are still not convinced that masturbation is for you, in 1972 the American Medical Association declared masturbation a normal sexual activity. So be normal! Embrace your sexual self as masturbation brings pleasure just as normally and naturally as scratching an itch does. Start putting your needs first and fulfilling them on your own.
