The Holiday Season Brings The Gift of STIs Down the Chimney (That’s Your Vage)

The weather outside is as frightful as vaginal itch thanks to the gift of STIs.

On Sing it with me! Oh, the weather outside is frightful and the pumpkin spice lattes are so delightful, but the fire in your vadge has grown…don’t let it go, don’t let it go, don’t let it go!

I know, why did I transform a sweet holiday tune into a song about STIs? Cause it’s me, Sujeiry. Duh! It was also the gentlest way to break this news to ya – the holiday season brings the gift of STIs down your chimney. And by chimney, I mean your private parts.

According to PositiveSingles.com, a dating site for those with herpes, HIV and other STIs to gain support and information, there is a rise of STIs during the holiday season. Talk about a terrible Christmas gift!

PLUS: What Sexy Things You Should Be Doing During Sex

On college campuses specifically there is a rise of STIs. And we can blame it on parties, alcohol and the holiday blues.

Luckily, I haven’t caught a dreadful itch! But as a Latina, I know that partying during the holiday season can lead to careless sex. Drinking while eating a turkey wing (my fave!) is par for the course during my family’s Thanksgiving festivities. Thing is drinking decreases our inhibitions and inebriates our logical thinking, therefore causing an increase in STD transmission.

Many men and women also feel lonely during the holiday season. When that loneliness strikes as the clock strikes 12, we often settle for any Tom, Dick, Harry or Harriett to fill the void temporarily.

Despite all the gloom and doom of this news, there is something to be thankful for – protection. Before slipping into bed (and after your Thanksgiving nap), ask your sexual partner if they have an STI. Also, ask when was the last time they got tested. If he or she admits to having an STI, Positive Singles suggests you “remain calm and most of all, be supportive.” Unless it’s a guy you brought home that very night. In that case, I say keep your panties on, chica. Cause it’s hard to enjoy coquito with an itchy pepita.
