It can be extremely difficult on a man when he suddenly finds himself unemployed. Men like to provide. Many also feel it defines them as a man. So when you pay all of the bills, he might feel you’re taking away from his manhood. Assure him that the situation is temporary. Let him know you have faith in him and you are committed to helping him find a new job.
Help him improve his resume.
Take a peek at his resume. If he doesn’t have one, help him create one. There are also many websites that provide professional, resume writing services for a fee. Plus, there are lots of free sample resumes online for almost any field. You can follow the format and help your man build a stellar resume.
Assist him on his search.
Two sets of eyes are better than one. This holds true for this situation. With sites like LinkedIn, Indeed and many others, it’s very simple to search through hundreds of jobs. However, there are so many jobs listed that it can become overwhelming. You should tackle this task as a team.
Do not leave him a to-do list.
It is important to remember that your man has one goal and that is finding a job. You don’t want to discourage him from looking for a job by assigning him household chores. If you need something done, simply ask. But, excessive to-do lists will not help the situation. You don’t want to turn your working man into a housewife.
Make time for your relationship.
Do not talk non-stop about his job search. This is a sensitive subject matter, and it can make or break a couple. Also, remember to take time away from the job search. Although you are on a budget, take advantage of movie nights with lots of cuddling, walks or something positive that you both enjoy.
