Abuela passed away when I was only 15 years old. Cancer had spread through her reproductive system, silently. When she was diagnosed, she didn’t tell her family.
It was Abuela’s burden to bear. The matriarch of the family suffered in silence because she didn’t want to hurt those she loved. Till this day, I am unsure of where the Cancer that ended her life began.
Now, at 34, I believe in fighting against all Cancers that affect women. Today I urge you to support Tamika & Friends, Inc, a national nonprofit organization designed to raise awareness about cervical cancer and its link to the human papillomavirus through a network of survivors and their friends.
This great organization is hosting The NYC Walk to Beat the Clock 2012 and they need your help to spread the word and/or put on your walking shoes.
