I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I have always been attracted to Latino men. When single, I’d mingle with Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Colombians (oh my!) and often ignore the advances of African-American men and, yes, even los gringos. For me, there’s nothing like a man who speaks Spanish (or tries to speak Spanish), understand and embraces my culture, and can throw down on the dance floor like a salsa king. Many argue that I can find that in any man of any ethnicity. True. But, I am physically attracted to Latino men – punto.
What do men want? How do Latina, African-American and Asian women fair when it comes to the dating preferences of men?
In a recent study, the dating app AYI (Are You Interested) analyzed the data of two million of their users to see if ethnicity trumps chemistry. They looked at what cultures users elected when searching for online dates. The results: people don’t want to date those of their own the ethnicity. Men truly want The Swirl! But with Asian women.
Asian women are the most preferred ethnicity by all men except for (shocker!) Asian men. Asian men rather wine and dine a Latina. Caucasian men, however, are all about their white lady counterparts. No wonder white men rarely hit on me when I was single! African-American men are pretty open, contacting women of all races and ethnicity. But they are three times more likely to get a response from African-American women than other women.
Sad, but it proves my point. People definitely have dating preferences when it comes to race and ethnicity. Personally, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with knowing who and what you like.
