Once Upon a Booty Call: A King for a Queen

Once Upon a Booty Call: A King for a Queen

Once upon a time I liked a Dominican boy with a pointy nose (the way I like them) and a big —

heart.

Unlike most fairy tales, I, Princess Sujeiry, was left without a glass chancleta or a beach front castle. My prince was not the Dominican boy. On the contrary, the Dominican boy was only a lesson from the Universe.

She believed I deserved a King.

Suddenly, there was a twist. Like an unintentional evil villain, Luke – the Dominican boy – appeared to reek emotional havoc. He called 4 months to the date of our break up. I kept my composure, holding onto my pride and silencing my hopes and fears. The Dominican boy already showed me who he was and what he could provide.

No wishing upon a star would ever change that.

Still, he pursued me as any unintentional villain does, with caution, little persistence and no remorse. While on vacation with my royal family in the exotic region known to civilians as Miami, I received a text.

K tengas buena noche preciosa!” It read. I replied, though my Fairy God Mother (my conscious) warned it was a mistake. A quick “thank you” wouldn’t do any harm, I fought back while typing. And so I send the text to the Dominican boy.

A day later, I hadn’t received a reply. “I told you not to reply! Now you’re checking your phone every 5 minutes!” My Fairy God Mother reprimanded while sprinkling me with fairy dust (platano chips). I closed my eyes and opened my mouth, allowing the power of the platano chips to consume my being and strengthen my resolve. But the platano chips energy wore off eventually.

48 hours later I noticed the date on the calender. September 23, 2011. Luke – the Dominican boy’s – birthday. I walked to the master quarters which was the furthest room from the dungeon (stinky bathroom) and picked up my phone. With one button, the phone dialed and I heard a ring. One ring. Two rings. Three rings. Machine. I left him a happy birthday message so I wouldn’t have to call again, and returned to my royal court.

5 minutes later, my phone rang. It was Luke. The Dominican boy who was not my prince had resurfaced. I picked up and greeted him hello. He thanked me for the birthday message. And then, he said he wanted to see me.

“I have plans with Sir David of Davi County,” I stated.

“Well, I am going to Niki Beach in South Beach. We’re staying the weekend and rented a hotel,” he replied.

“My chariot leaves to the City of New York tomorrow at dawn,” I stated matter a factly. “So that is that,” I finished, remaining strong.

“Too bad. Me gustaria verte para darte un besito…una enchuliaita,” he pressed. My mouth dropped before gathering my bearings to say, “Kind sir, I do not believe in going backwards.”

Silence on the other end.

“Nothing will result from a kiss. There is no point, do you understand? I am not moving backwards,” I finished, standing my ground.

“Ok…ta bien,” the Dominican boy muttered, stunned at my rejection, that I didn’t jump at the chance to be with him for a one-time booty call. The conversation was then over. Nothing else to say. I bid him adieu with a curtsy and sat alone in my chamber.

Suddenly, there was a twist!

The Universe and my Fairy God Mother stood in front of me, holding a crown. I closed my eyes and they placed the crown on my head before leading me to my throne. That’s when I got it.  Another lesson indeed. Life is truly filled with them.

I am a Queen and a Queen always deserves her King.
