We’ve all had moments with co-workers. That one time when one of your cute and ruggedly handsome colleagues smiles at you. Or the time he flirted with you when you were on break. He knew you’d want company and so there he went, primed to make you giggle and blush.
Well, honey, I hate to break it to you, but he’s not giving you attention because he’s interested. It turns out male co-workers mostly flirt with colleagues because they are just bored.
According to a study released by the University of Surrey, men flirt to alleviate boredom. Researchers asked 201 participants between the ages 21 to 68 to answer questions about their “behaviors, job performance and level of job satisfaction at work.” The results were interesting. Most men were unhappy with their jobs, so they wink and bat their eyes to make work less miserable.
So, the next time the office hunk saunters over to you don’t get any ideas. Instead, play along. If he is interested, he’ll show you. He’ll ask you to lunch and really engage you in conversation. It will be evident that he wants to get to know you. But don’t assume. You know what they say when we assume. And no one likes to be an ass!
