The Top 10 Male Turnoffs as Explained by Men

If you do any of these things he may just shut you down.

I would hate to think that something I’m doing to turn a man on has the opposite effect. For instance, I’ve heard men like women that are sexy and aggressive. So I tried kissing a random guy I met at a club. Instead of leaning in for a seductive smooch, however, I bit his lip and actually drew blood.

I was messy drunk. Let’s just say I might have tripped over my feet or fallen over – I’m really not sure which one. Judging by the freaked out look on his face, my move wasn’t the biggest turn-on. And, when I shared the story with my male friends and fraternity brothers, they agreed. They also had a lot to say regarding the top male turn-offs when dating. Here they are as explained by men:

Turnoff #1: Women who are always fishing for a compliment.

fishing for a compliment

When a guy compliments you take the compliment and say thank you. Guys CAN’T EVEN with women who say, “you’re just saying that” or “I look horrible today” when given a compliment. It makes men feel awkward, and they also assume you’re fishing for more compliments and reassurance.

Turnoff #2: Women who have a negative attitude.

No one likes a Debbie Downer. That’s because negativity is contagious. So, if you’re negative about your appearance and who you are in general, it’s difficult for a man to be positive around you and have positive feelings toward you and your relationship.

Turnoff #3: Women who do not see value in their family.

hate family hug

A lot of men have children or want children in the future. So they want a woman who cares about family and is family oriented. A man wants to feel comfortable bringing you around his family, especially when it comes to getting his mother’s approval.

Turnoff #4: Women who are entitled and expect men to give them everything.

im spoiled

“The Princess Complex,” as some men call it, is when a woman expects a guy to do everything and anything for her, even if that means sacrificing his entire life savings on her. And that’s a huge turn off!

Turnoff #5: Women who do not respect themselves.

no respect

My good friend John explained it like this: “If you don’t respect yourself, then we’ll never respect you and we’ll use that to our advantage in any way.” Enough said.

Turnoff #6: Women who smoke and smell of cigarettes.

If he doesn’t smoke, smelling like an ashtray is just a no go for most men.

Turnoff #7: Women with bad hygiene, especially bad breath.

Ladies, wear your deodorant, check your breath and brush your teeth twice a day! Make sure you smell fresh and clean when you’re out with your guy.

Turnoff #8: Women who wear too much makeup.

too much makeup

Ladies, all of our time and effort is appreciated but not necessarily needed, especially since heavy makeup and miniskirts aren’t doing much for most men. He’d much rather see you au natural – or at least as natural as possible.

Turnoff #9: Women who are close-minded sexually and never initiate sex.

shy at sex

Don’t like blow jobs? Don’t expect a guy to go down South. My fraternity brother, Charles, added this: “Not interested in initiating sex, taking off my clothes, and climbing on top? Then you pretty much have issues.”

Turnoff #10: Women who do not show appreciation for a man’s efforts.

no thanks

“I can take you out, buy you a nice meal, take you shopping, or even cook for you, but if you can’t tell me how much you appreciate me I just can’t mess with you,” said one of the guys. So, ladies, offer up a thank you. Show appreciation by taking him out every now and then, cooking him a meal or giving him a nice massage. Show you how much you truly care or turn him off completely.
