My niece is teaching me a thing or two about self-love and I just needed to share her 10 month old wisdom. First, you must embrace every dimple, every roll, and every chubby cheek (both ends), just like Nila. She doesn’t complain that her stubby toes don’t look slim in her hot pink sandals. Instead, she stuffs them in her mouth like they’re rolls of bread.
If we’d suck ourselves more often, we’d be much more satisfied.
Then there’s her smile. She beams at almost anything, despite only having 4 teeth. We have 32 dammit! What do we have to be sour about?! Nila also celebrates all of life’s mysteries. If someone puts a finger up their nose, she giggles. When I sing her the following:
“Poo poo poo poo poo poo poo poo poo!”
She exposes her four front teeth and chuckles. I don’t think it’s very funny, but Nila loves life so much that she’ll laugh at Dane Cook and Pauly Shores jokes.
She’s that positive.
Lastly, to love ourselves as much as Nila, we must make love to ourselves. How is that even possible? If goes a little something like this.
- Hold a framed photo of yourself in front of you. If you do not have a framed photo, then take one and buy a frame from the .99 Cents Store. No need to be fancy.
- Stroke your framed photo while smiling. This will make you feel really happy and loved!
- Moisten your lips, pucker up, and get to kissing…yourself! Make sure you lick the frame photo like a tootsie pop. You’re just that yummy.
That is how Nila does it almost every day, and she’s really freaking confident and happy, chunky cheeks and all. So let’s learn a lesson from my 10-month old niece. Love yourself as strongly and loudly as she ga ga goo goo’s herself to sleep.
