Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. That’s because it’s about gratitude and nothing more. We don’t have to buy gifts. There’s no pressure to outdo each other. No need for a mad rush to Macy’s (or Amazon.com if you’re like me – I love shopping online) because your cousin is driving down from Boston unexpectedly. And she’s bought you a gift!
No. Thanksgiving isn’t stressful at all. It is about family, love and enjoying a feast of turkey, chicken, pernil, morro de guandules, arroz blanco and then some.
What can I say? Latino Thanksgiving is not just about turkey.
So, you can imagine how excited I am to be home. I am in NYC as I type, preparing my hot Thanksgiving outfit (a black pleather skirt and a flowy, transparent, short-sleeve black top with a vegan-leather front panel). I can’t wait to be at my Tia Odilis’ apartment with my cousins, sister, mother, brother, sister-in-law, and of course, my niece, Nila. And we will dance. And drink. And be grateful.
So, without further ado (the turkey’s getting cold, y’all), here are thirteen things that I am grateful for this Thanksgiving.
Opportunities have come a-knocking in 2013, and maybe have been mind blowing. Take this picture. Me and my friends Helen and Allie met with Oxygen executives to discuss our own show...on Oxygen! It didn't work out but how can I not be grateful for this opportunity? So many people work to get in the door. We broke through the door and sat down with major movers in the television industry. That's major. That's something to be proud of.
