When starting your blog for business or monetization many experts (ahum, me!) will suggest that you get your SEO together. Besides creating a SEO strategy before you launch your website, you should also think about guest blogging for backlinks. I know, I know, who wants to do more work? You – and I’ll explain!

What Is Guest blogging for Backlinks?

When you guest blog for backlinks you write an article or story for another website in your niche in order to get a byline that connects to your blog. A byline, for non-published writers, is the “about the author” section at the end of a story. Usually, you are able to link your website to that author bio.

How Do Backlinks Help SEO?

Backlinks are valuable for SEO because of one thang: Google will be all, “Wow! You’re website is so amazing that other sites want to link to you!” It’s like a stamp of approval. A stamp of a approval means that your blog for biz will take precedence in Google ranking over a website without any backlinks.

What Else Do I Need to Do to Backlink?

In order for backlinking to work, you also link the site to your site. For example, I have published and continue to publish stories for various digital platforms as a freelance writer, including HipLatina, Latina, Madamnoire, Amendo, Mom.com, Momtastic, many more. These blogs also link to LoveSujeiry.com (right here!) and I link to them (I literally just did in the sentence before!). Once you take this step you are officially backlinked!

One more thing!

As tempted as you might feel to get links back to your blog for biz, don’t just guest blog on any ol’ blog! You must assure three things: the blog is in your niche (if you are a health writer, for example, don’t write for a tech blog), write for a high quality (that means a beautiful website that has great written content. P.S. If you need a beautiful and seamless website, hollar at me. ) blog, the blog should get as much if not more traffic than your blog. (I know, I know, that one is tough, but if you freelance as a writer, it’s easier than you think!)

So, should you guest blog or nah? I say do so if you have the time. It will definitely build your blog presence and increase your traffic. And those new visitors will be so impressed with your stellar blog that they might buy your product. Win-win.
