On Tuesday, I was glued to ABC watching Desiree get her heart broken by Brooks. This was the episode I’ve been waiting for, as have many of you. Desiree had taken the men to Antigua, where she would opt in or out of overnight dates. These dates are the make or break for these relationships as it is the last episode before The Bachelorette finale.
And what an episode it was.
Desiree proclaims her love for Brooks, the only man of the three eligible bachelors who has yet to profess his love for Desiree. But Desiree has no idea, even though Brooks said he was “jogging” toward “the finish line” (their metaphor for falling in love), whereas Desiree was “running.”
Oh, Desiree. What happened next was so obvious to everyone but you.
Brooks comes to Antigua and tells Desiree he is not in love with her. He cares for her. He thinks she’s amazing. But what he knows and feels as love is not what he feels for her, and he will never feel this for Desiree. It is just not there. Her heart breaks. We, the viewers, can see her shock, her pain. And I realized that Desiree has been here before. She has said it in past episodes – how she’s never been loved the way she wants to be loved. This time, while Brooks holds her and she sobs onto his chest, Desiree declares:
“I always love the wrong people.””
You certainly, do, Desiree. I know. I have as well.
The audience also had something to say, including myself, all over Twitter. Some comments were angry, sad and others were just hilarious.
