Ask Sujeiry: He Lied About His Online Profile. Should I Dump Him?

Dear Sujeiry,

I met a guy online about 2 months ago. We hit it off really good. Not soon after meeting he asked if I wanted to be exclusive and have the bf/gf title, as long as we deleted our profiles from the dating site. Long story short I said ok.

Then, I had a HUNCH. I knew something was off. So I Googled his profile name with the dating site name, and there it was. His profile is still open and active. He lied to me about something very stupid.

I don’t care really about having the title and being exclusive. There is such thing as the “dating” period, which in my opinion is OK. Dating is important until you know who you want to be with. So…I have no idea how to handle this. The Aries in me says drop him NOW – no questions asked! The other side says talk to him and see what he has to say. What do you think?

A Hunch and A Dating Profile

Dear A Hunch and A Dating Profile,

I have two words – drop him!

He lied from the very beginning, which means he will lie again. What is he hiding? Why would he want you to delete your account to only keep his?

It seems he wants to have his cake (you) and eat it too (other women just in case you don’t work out). He doesn’t want you to date anyone else, but he has an active online account. That means he’s still open to meeting other women and potentially date them.

So drop him!

I speak from personal experience. In my book, Love Trips, one of my boyfriends at the time did the same. We didnt meet online but he had a profile on a dating site that he told me about. He never deleted it. I found out and freaked out like a typical Aries. Needless to say, there were many skeletons in his closet.

I will leave you with one last note – a quote from Maya Angelou.

“When people show you who they are, believe them the first time.”

Believe it, Mujer, and drop him!

Love strongly and wisely,
