Want Gender Equality? Free the Nipple

By  |

I believe in empowering women to do whatever they want in life and in love. As long as a woman respects herself who am I to judge if she sleeps with Tom, Dick, Harry (and Pepe and Carlos), and wants to show her bits to the world? Who am I to say she should stay at home with her babies or have babies at all? Activists and filmmakers Lina Esco and Hunter Richards agree, and they’re on a mission to Free the Nipple.

The Free the Nipple Campaign began when Esco and Richards created and produced the feature film “Free the Nipple” in 2012 and co-founded the FTN movement. Dedicating their lives to bringing “gender equality” to the world, they connected with LANDED NY, a multidisciplinary production house that works with artists to create and produce innovative content. And in 2015, with the partnering of LANDED NY, the FREE THE NIPPLE campaign video was born!

It’s all about girl power, and Julia and Sophie of LANDED NY share this message with women:

Love yourself and support each other. Both are acts of defiance. And that’s what makes them so damn fun.

Lina Esco and Hunter Richards shared this quote from Christopher Hitchens:

“The cure for poverty … is the empowerment of women!”

In the end, the mission of Free the Nipple isn’t really about going bare (although if you want to that’s totally fine); it’s about gender equality by any means necessary. “Presently women do not share the same rights and equal protection as men under the US Constitution,” said Esco and Richards. “The fact that America, which prides itself on freedom, still does not recognize women to be equal as men on every level, is simply criminal.”
