How to DIY a Cone Christmas Tree for Only $1
“Are we getting a Christmas tree?” Boo asks.
It’s a week before Jesus’ birthday and I haven’t even thought about decorating our place, mostly because it’s tiny. Let’s just say our 1-bedroom apartment isn’t motivating me to be festive. Still, I decide to try. It’s Evan’s first Christmas. He won’t remember it but we will. And it’s my duty to make it special. That includes giving my baby boy a Christmas tree.
Only I don’t think it smart or costly to buy a tree just to throw it away; we have no room to store it after the holidays. We are also going to South Carolina to visit my family for a few days so the tree will just stand all alone come Christmas Day.
So I come up with another conclusion: an easy and affordable DIY project. This is my cone Christmas tree and it only cost me $1!
I found the idea on this DIY blog. She used styrofoam but I used (wait for it) a gift bag. I turned it around to the white side and rolled it up like a cone. I cut the bottom evenly so it stands – and it did! Here are the materials:
- Gift bag
- Gold tinsel from Walgreens ($1)
- Ornaments (various colors and sizes)
- Fuchsia star
- Glue gun and glue
Step 1: Create the cone with the gift bag as stated above.
Step 2: Using the glue gun cover the cone with gold tinsel. I wrapped it slowly while gluing.
Step 3: Once the tree is covered in tinsel, glue the ornaments however you wish.
Step 4: Stick the fuchsia star on top and you’re done!
It only took 10 minutes!
Boo loves it as do I. As for Evan when he first saw the tree he smiled wide and reached out to grab it. And that smile is worth a million bucks.
