Sujeiry Recommends: The Lucky One Starring Zac Efron

I have often been unlucky in love. Heart break, drunk dialing, my alter ego Conchita, bad sex (I’m sorry, pepa™) and even the big C have threatened my relationships. Maybe I should go to Ireland and find a four leaf clover. Maybe that’s what I need to find my lucky one.

Beth (Taylor Schilling) from The Lucky One also had a crappy relationship history. She married Keith (Jay R. Ferguson), her high school sweetheart, after becoming pregnant. The football captain turned douchebag police officer couldn’t keep it in his pants after they wed, so she filed for divorce. Beth lives for her son and the dogs in her dog kennel business. And of course, there’s Nana.

Nana (Blythe Danner) is a delightful character. She is sharp, funny and sarcastic, all while pushing Beth to give Logan (Zac Efron) a job. Logan is a marine from Colorado. He ends up in Beth’s kennel after days of walking from Colorado to North Carolina. He walks to find her, to thank her for saving his life during a night raid in Iraq. He walks because her photo, found in gravel, helped him survive. She is his lucky one. His guardian angel. While I can’t find a man to walk me to the train station.

The story continues just like expected. The Lucky One is a movie based on Nicholas Sparks’ novel. This movie is the second coming of The Notebook. And, just like in The Notebook, there are juicy sex scenes, properties being fixed for love, hard emotional and physical labor and the building of a love affair because it is destined.

Beth and Logan are destined to be together. That is why he found her photo. That is why he walked from Colorado to North Carolina. His brooding stare and genuine spirit melts Beth’s heart, as it will all female audiences. His love for her is so endearing and pure that it gives me hope that I will find my lucky one. It reminded me of why I love being in love and why I need to try again. That a man should kiss me “every day, every hour, every minute.” That I, we, must believe in destiny.

No need for a trip to Ireland. No need to find a four leave clover. Just believe.
