Just yesterday I experienced what it feels like to realize a dream. The glory of it shone on my face – eyes bright, filled with hope, anticipation, and wonderment; teeth and laugh lines exposed. My heart flew as I expressed true words of gratitude – to God for bringing me blessings, to Carrie for introducing me to Carolina, and for Carolina and John Carlos, who are giving me this shot at goal fulfillment. My pepa™ even tingled as I professed my love to those who decided that the following day – today, July 13th – my voice would bless the radio waves on La Mega’s El Vacillon de La Mañana.
Or as John Carlos stated, “Pop my radio show cherry.”
But let’s rewind.
Last week, the power of Twitter, Tiki Tiki Pepa Power™, and La Mega came together to work its magic. Carrie from Tiki Tiki Blog send Carolina Cadillo and I a tweet, introducing us and promoting Flaca Till Death, a post I’d written. From there, the Twitter dialogue began. Two tweets and two DM’s later, I sent Carolina my resume. And now, here I am, on the downtown 1 train at 5:20am, excited and not tired at all, and on my way to La Mega!
To think that this came about with one Twitter introduction and a bold move. That Tweet could have been in vain, but I pounced on the opportunity, taking further action by inquing about radio and a possible internship. This is why I’m here, giddy but confident, and as cool as a fat cat. When you know what you are meant to do, there is no fear in getting there, only the knowledge that you will get there at some time, somehow. I know this is my time. I could feel it in my gut, my pores, every movement and every breath that I take.
My life, as I know it, is changing.
