Love Bytes: Interviewing the Fab Women at #WIWbyJCastro
I usually jump at the chance to be a part of women empowerment events, so when I was asked to be a panelist at Women Inspiring Women by Jessica Castro I eagerly agreed without asking any details. What can I say? I’m a sucker for girl power. I’ve built my brand around it and happily collaborate with women and can’t imagine doing otherwise. That’s why I was a part of the panel and also interviewed like Jessica Castro, Evette Rios, Nancy Ruffin, and Denise Grant of Here a Cake, There a Cake – and Cupcakes Too.
I’ve always been a girls girl. Perhaps because at a young age I struggled to connect with Mami and my sister, Adayna. They’re a lot a like, my sister and mother, and I felt a bit lost amongst their stubbornness, bossiness and overall rightness. I often felt unheard. They loved me and listened but they did not hear me. There’s a difference, you know.
Since adulting, I’ve made it a point to be there for women the way I’ve wanted the women in my family to be there for me. So thank you to Alli Rodriguez, who organized #WIWbyJCastro, for asking me to tell my story on a warm day in June at the Aloft Hotel in NYC. I hope I made a difference. I hope I guided some gals. I hope my authenticity inspired girl power to those who needed just that.
