Listen Up Men! Top Criteria That Women Look for in a Mate
My best friend and I have never agreed on men. She likes guys who look like they still need to go through puberty; I like a chiseled jaw line with a morning shadow that can easily give me “carpet burn” after a passionate kiss. She is also attracted to men who show serious earning potential. The cha-ching makes her feel safe. I, on the other, hand want a partner who’s professional focus isn’t money, but passion.
Our “type” speaks volumes about who we are as individuals. Factors like how we might have been raised and our own personal values are reflected in mate selection. For some educated women in their 20s only a handful of attributes are a priority. So listen up, men! Here’s what women are looking for in a mate.
About 85% of the women I spoke with noted that a man with nice eyes and/or who is in good shape gets top billing. “A physical attraction, to me, get’s you in the door. Personality keeps you in the door,” said one 24 year old. Another plus is if the man has tattoos. Hmm, bad boy?
Nice Adam’s Apples were also mentioned. This is one of my weaknesses. Yes, I am not alone!
A 21 year old from Forney, Texas said, “I love a southern gentleman whose mother has obviously taught him good manners.” And it’s not just her who feels that way. Good manners was a top priority for many of the women polled. Some other traits that attracted women were non-smokers, talent, and spirituality.
It’s important to have a personality or you’re pretty much having a relationship with bland wallpaper. Important personally traits that were mentioned included confidence, a good sense of humor, a good heart, and being a driven and passionate individual. Women felt that these traits allow them to connect on a deeper level.
Money and Status
While not the most important characteristic, I encountered a few women like my best friend who seek men who have great money-making potential. “It’s a rough economy. And a guy who can make life a little easier with a good income attached to mine is a definite plus!” stated Tracy, a 24 year old from Dallas, Texas. However, the women I spoke to let me know that they are not actively searching for a man to support them. They just believe that his earning reflects his intelligence and ambition. I say to each their own.
Tell us. How does what you seek rank on this list? Which one of these categories is the most important?
