Thanks to Bedsider, I Am Not the Mommy!

By  |

Bedsider.org sponsored post I once had a lapse of judgment and had sex without a condom. He slipped it in – without protection – and in the heat of the moment, I welcomed him. It didn’t matter that he was my hot and sexy boyfriend of many months. It also didn’t matter that we’d been very responsible, spoken about getting tested and after going to the doctors shared our results. Fortunately, we were both STD free. But what about babies?! I wasn’t on birth control. And, contrary to popular belief, the pull out method is not effective.

Just ask the products (babies!) 9 months later.

In the middle of getting our sexual groove on, I shouted, “I don’t want to be a mommy yet!”

Both terrified, we stopped copulating right that instant.

“Do you want to get on birth control?” He asked, frazzled that he may have impregnated me. He stared at my tummy as if his spawn was growing inside my uterus.

I mulled over his suggestion. “What if I forget to take the pill?” I freaked. “Besides, you know I hate taken pills.”

“Aren’t there other forms?” He reasoned.

Ah, yes. Other methods of birth control.

At the time, I was the tender age of 25. That was in 2003. Finding information wasn’t as easy as it is now that there are sites like Bedsider.org. Bedsider is a new online and mobile program that helps women find the right birth control method. Their mission is to prevent unplanned pregnancies, like the one that would have occurred if my then boyfriend and I would have continued on that path. Though I wasn’t ready (I was too busy partying, traveling and being an independent young woman), having a baby at 25 was more than plausible. Statistics show that the United States has one of the highest rates of unplanned pregnancies. One of 10 single women between the ages of 20-29 has an unplanned pregnancy every year!

My ovaries are shaking with terror.

So, what should you do? Get smart, just like I did. I decided to research information and eventually went on the no-muss-no-fuss patch. Is that the right birth control method for you? Only one way to find out. Stop getting your groove on for a second and review the birth control methods listed on Bedsider.org!

You’ll thank me, and Besider, 9 months later when you are not the mommy.
