I’ve always said Puerto Rico does it better, at least when it comes to their chacho-bro shouting jibaros who heat up my pepa™ as quickly as a strong Bacardi and Coke. But now I am with a Dominican man and can only adore La Isla Del Encanto’s men from afar.
As one can imagine, this posed quiet a challenge for me when attending the Rums of Puerto Rico event on Wednesday, February 23rd. I walked through the tall, glass doors of MSG’s Transportation Room and felt I had been transported to Coquiville. Puerto Rican men were everywhere. Behind the bar, speaking in front of the podium, on the picturesque promotional video for the brand: they were everywhere. To keep out of trouble, I mingled with a group of lovely and talented Latina writers and beauties.
This included Helen Troncoso, who is a writer and also Ms. NY Nuestra Belleza Latina 2011, Divina from Dancing Hotdogs, and Elizabeth Carrion, a Dominican writer and public relations guru who loves la cocina.
Soon, I made my way to the bar where I did not flirt with the bartender. I ignored his sing-song Spanish and soft, jet black mane and instead paraded in front of the many bottles that were present. My passion for Puerto Rican rum was soon ignited as I reminisced about my college days, where Bacardi and I whispered sweet nothings into each others ear.
Oh, how I love thee.
And so it was that I remained faithful to my boyfriend. Though Puerto Rico does it better, I have the willpower and resilience of a doña from Los Naranjos, Dominican Republic. Still, I must give credit where credit is due.
With the help of Bacardi, I can do anything.
