Humor is Sexy! How Being Funny Helps Your Relationship

By  |

I’m sitting down to eat lunch at a cafe and I hear giggling. I turn around and a couple is sitting at a table, heads bent toward each other. The girl is laughing like a second grader. The guy is trying to contain his amusement. They’re having a great time together. Because, as they say, laughter is the best medicine, and humor is definitely a plus when it comes to dating and relationships.

Dating app Zoosk agrees, which is why they decided to explore what people think of humor in love, dating and couplehood. Here’s what they discovered:

1. Humor is an aphrodisiac and can set the mood for sex, but only if you are the right kind of funny. Leave the knock-knock for your buddies; it just doesn’t scream sexy time. Instead, be playful and coy as it builds sexual tension. He’ll be begging for that final strip show.

2. Goofiness is attractive. “Garsh!” Looks like Goofy has upped his game. 43% of Americans prefer a partner with a goofy sense of humor. If you can’t act silly around a potential mate, what’s the point of being around them, right? You can’t be perfect all the time. This comfort level is exactly what people are looking for.

3. A sense of humor is a must…but we already covered that, didn’t we? 64% of Americans say that a sense of humor is more important than chemistry. You need to laugh and roll around and get dirty with the person you’re attracted to, if it’s going to last.

Personally, I want that good belly laugh. That laugh where you can’t breathe for a solid five minutes because he said something so damn funny. That’s the best medicine. Those are the best relationship moments.
