I first heard that Gia Allemand from The Bachelor was hospitalized two days ago. The message from her publicist was cryptic, only stating that she was in critical condition due to a “medical emergency.”
24 hours later we learn the truth – Gia Allemand, reality TV beauty and Queens native – committed suicide.
Her boyfriend, Ryan Anderson found Gia hanging and unconscious in her New Orleans home. She was removed from life-support after doctors determined she suffered a “critical loss of brain and organ function,” her family said in a statement.
But why? That’s what everyone wants to know. Why would a beautiful woman with fame, money, a home and the love of family, friends and (we assume) a boyfriend commit suicide?
TMZ claims that Gia may have killed herself due to her tumultuous relationship with her boyfriend, Ryan Anderson. And it got me to thinking: if this is the case, how low must a woman’s self-esteem be for her to take her own life over man trouble? How fragile must Gia have been to kill herself over boy drama?
I remember her on Jake’s season of The Bachelor and she was indeed fragile. She didn’t seem to deal with heartbreak easy, but none of them do.
So, ladies, here is my plea. Do not do yourself or others any harm due to a dramatic romantic relationship, or any reason for that matter. If you are unhappy with your man, get out. If you cannot get out, seek help. Remember that you have more to live for than for the love of a man.
If you or anyone you know is contemplating suicide, please seek help and call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.
